Abstract

Computed Tomography is a diagnostic imaging modality that utilizes high-energy X-rays to produce cross-sectional images of the body with good spatial resolution and has become a standard examination in the evaluation of intracranial disorders, such as head trauma, hemorrhage, and stroke. In a Non Contrast Head CT examination, radiation exposure needs to be controlled because it has the potential to cause risks if not optimized. Radiation dose assessment generally uses the CTDIvol and DLP parameters, which are also the basis for determining Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRL). One factor suspected of influencing radiation dose variations is the patient's anatomical size, especially head diameter, because it is related to the X-ray attenuation process and radiation dose distribution. This study aims to analyze the effect of head diameter on DLP values in a Non-Contrast Head CT examination. This study is an observational analytical quantitative study using a retrospective approach. The study population was all adult patients who underwent a Non-Contrast Head CT examination at the Radiology Installation of Wangaya Regional Hospital, Denpasar City, with a sample of 100 data selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were obtained through DICOM images for anteroposterior and lateral diameter measurements, as well as dose reports for CTDIvol and DLP values. Data analysis was performed using correlation and linear regression tests with a significance level of p-value <0,05. The results showed that there was a significant effect between head diameter and DLP values (p-value <0,05), so H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. Head diameter contributed 19,8% to the variation in DLP values, indicating that head diameter was not a dominant factor in determining radiation dose variations.
