Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a viral infection transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, characterized by high fever, myalgia, arthralgia, and thrombocytopenia, which may progress to severe bleeding and shock. Hematological abnormalities, particularly thrombocytopenia (platelet count <150,000/μL), serve as critical indicators of clinical severity in dengue infection. This study aimed to determine the profile of platelet counts based on the severity of DHF among hospitalized patients. A quantitative descriptive study with a retrospective approach was conducted at Meuraxa Regional General Hospital in Banda Aceh from April to May 2026. The study population comprised all hospitalized DHF patients in 2025, with a sample of 72 patients selected based on specific inclusion criteria via medical record observations. Data were analyzed using frequency and percentage distributions. The results demonstrated that all Grade I patients presented with mild thrombocytopenia (29 patients, 100%), Grade II patients predominantly exhibited moderate thrombocytopenia (19 patients, 55.9%), Grade III patients mostly had severe thrombocytopenia (5 patients, 71.4%), and all Grade IV patients presented with severe thrombocytopenia (2 patients, 100%). In conclusion, platelet count profiles vary markedly across different clinical severity stages of DHF. Early monitoring of platelet counts is highly recommended to anticipate disease progression and prevent severe complications
