Abstract

The Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) implemented through Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) requires proper hygiene and sanitation practices to ensure food safety and protect workers' health. Poor environmental sanitation may increase the risk of digestive disorders and the presence of flies as mechanical disease vectors. This study aimed to describe digestive disorder complaints among workers and fly density levels at SPPG in Manado City. A descriptive quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 92 workers selected using total sampling. Data were collected through interviews using questionnaires, observation of personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and fly density measurements using a fly grill*. The results showed that most workers had no history of gastritis (72.8%) and were classified as having low digestive disorder complaints, with heartburn being the most frequently reported symptom. PPE use was generally good; however, compliance with mask and work clothing use still needs improvement. The fly population index at SPPG X was categorized as moderate (1.85), while SPPG Y was categorized as high (3.55), with the highest fly density observed in waste disposal and equipment washing areas. In conclusion, digestive disorder complaints among workers were generally low, but fly density remains a concern, indicating the need to strengthen environmental sanitation, food handler hygiene practices, and sustainable fly control measures.
