Abstract

The tobacco processing industry requires a quality control system capable of producing objective and consistent tobacco grade classification to maintain raw material quality. This study aimed to analyze the influence of nicotine content and Non-Tobacco Related Material (NTRM) on tobacco grade classification at PT X using multiple linear regression analysis. A quantitative approach was employed using secondary data obtained from laboratory testing of fifteen tobacco samples. The independent variables consisted of nicotine content and NTRM, while the dependent variable was tobacco grade. Data analysis was performed using Microsoft Excel with the Data Analysis ToolPak, including descriptive statistics, multiple linear regression, t-test, F-test, and coefficient of determination (R²). The results indicated that nicotine content had a significance value of 0.398, while NTRM had a significance value of 0.220, indicating that both variables had no significant partial effect on tobacco grade. Simultaneous testing also showed no significant effect, with a significance value of 0.126. Furthermore, the coefficient of determination (R²) was 0.292, indicating that the regression model explained only 29.2% of the variation in tobacco grade, while the remaining 70.8% was influenced by other variables outside the research model. These findings suggest that tobacco grade determination at PT Sadhana X is influenced not only by nicotine content and NTRM but also by other quality attributes, particularly the physical characteristics of tobacco leaves.
