Abstract

Infection is the leading cause of blindness in developing countries and results in corneal ulcers. If not addressed, increasing tissue damage may result in perforation and visual loss. This case report addresses bacterial corneal ulcers resulting from asphalt exposure. The physical examination indicated a visual acuity of 1/~ in the right eye and 6/6 in the left eye, accompanied with eyelid edema, conjunctival and circumcorneal congestion, a complete corneal epithelial defect, corneal stromal turbidity, and desmetocele. The case was deemed severe, and conjunctival flap surgery was conducted. This case presentation aims to enhance comprehension of corneal ulceration processes and management, particularly in recognizing instances where pharmaceutical treatment is inadequate.
