Cervical cancer is the fourth most common type of cancer among women worldwide, including in Indonesia. Cervical cancer is primarily caused by persistent infection with high-risk Human papillomavirus (HPV), particularly types 16 and 18. Treatment options for cervical cancer include hysterectomy, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or a combination of these modalities depending on the stage of the disease. One of the radiation therapy methods used is external beam radiation therapy (EBRT). EBRT is commonly considered a primary treatment option because cervical cancer is radiosensitive. This study aimed to compare the planning target volume (PTV) and the doses received by organs at risk (OARs) among various radiotherapy planning techniques, including 2D radiotherapy, three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT), and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), with the application of specific dose optimization constraints, in order to evaluate the balance between target coverage quality and normal tissue protection. This study was a retrospective comparative dosimetric study based on a treatment planning system (TPS), involving 45 patients with stage II–III cervical cancer who underwent external beam radiation therapy using both cobalt-60 and linear accelerator (LINAC) machines at Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, West Java Province, Indonesia.References
