This study aimed to analyze changes in body weight, mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), blood pressure, and hemoglobin concentration among pregnant women with chronic energy deficiency (CED) following a local food-based supplementary feeding intervention. This quantitative study employed a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 32 pregnant women with CED, who were divided equally into intervention and control groups, with 16 participants in each group. The intervention group received supplementary food in the form of cassava-ebi crackers for four weeks, while the control group received the standard treatment. Data on body weight, MUAC, blood pressure, and hemoglobin concentration were collected before and after the intervention using an observation sheet. Data were analyzed using the paired-samples t-test, Wilcoxon test, independent-samples t-test, and Mann–Whitney U test, as appropriate based on data distribution. The results showed increases in body weight, MUAC, and hemoglobin concentration, along with decreases in blood pressure in the intervention group during the observation period. At the final assessment, significant differences between the intervention and control groups were observed in MUAC (p = 0.000) and hemoglobin concentration (p = 0.007), whereas body weight (p = 0.108), systolic blood pressure (p = 0.081), and diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.098) did not differ significantly between groups. Local food-based supplementary feeding demonstrated the most consistent responses in MUAC and hemoglobin concentration among pregnant women with CED.References
