Kajian Prinsip Teknik Kertas Pop Up Dalam Buku ABC3D Karya Marion Bataille

Abstract

This study examines the pop-up paper techniques in Marion Bataille’s ABC3D book as an interactive and visually engaging medium for introducing the alphabet to children. Addressing the issue of declining interest in reading and the importance of letter recognition as the foundation of early literacy, this book serves as an example of how graphic design and paper mechanisms can enhance the reading experience. The study employs a qualitative approach using literature review and case study methods, involving the examination of books, journals, and visual documentation to identify the principles and mechanisms of the pop-up paper techniques used. The analysis focuses on the application of cutting and folding mechanisms, as well as five key principles interactivity, compactness, consistency, flexibility, and surprise on each alphabet page in the ABC3D book. The results of the study indicate that the combination of at least three principles on each page produces a stable three-dimensional structure that is easy to operate and provides a surprise effect that enriches the reading experience. These findings confirm that the appropriate application of pop-up paper craft principles and mechanisms not only contributes to aesthetic aspects but also supports reader engagement and the potential for early childhood literacy development.
