Abstract

The global climate change crisis driven by Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions demands scientifically rigorous, nature-based mitigation efforts. PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Fuel Terminal Bandung actively contributes to this goal through a 2-hectare biodiversity conservation and reforestation program at Taman Kehati Kiara Payung, West Java. This study evaluates the environmental impact of the program by analyzing tree canopy development, sapling growth dynamics, and the biomass of understory plants (tumbuhan bawah) and leaf litter (serasah) using the innovative ARUNA Carbon Intelligence platform. Periodic monitoring was conducted in permanent Plot 5 (Sub-plots 5.1 to 5.5). The scientific validity of understory plant and leaf litter biomass was validated by laboratory gravimetric analysis conducted at the Soil Chemistry and Plant Nutrition Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran (Report No. C-0173 to 0370/07/2026). Tree monitoring in Plot 5.1 demonstrated stable biomass accumulation, such as African Mahogany (Mahoni Afrika) whose trunk circumference grew from 91.5 cm (2024) to 106 cm (2026) with a height of 15.5 m. Sapling inventories showed remarkable growth in ecologically and economically valuable species, notably Pinang, which reached a maximum height of 340 cm and a trunk diameter (D20) of 91.73 mm. Lab results indicated that leaf litter possessed low, optimal moisture content (ranging between 17% - 24%, dry weight reaching 218.40 g out of 265.33 g wet weight), while understory plants exhibited higher moisture content (~56% - 63%). The ARUNA Carbon Intelligence application, which integrates Artificial Intelligence with QR Coding and Geotagging, proved highly effective in enhancing the spatial resolution of carbon accounting, eliminating double-counting, and providing a 75.6% reduction in carbon inventory operational costs (slashing costs from IDR 22,500,000 to IDR 5,500,000 per campaign). Overall, this program delivers substantial positive environmental impacts on forest ecosystem restoration and climate change mitigation within the North Bandung catchment area.
