Hubungan Jumlah Leukosit Dengan Durasi Demam Pada Anak Demam Tifoid Di Rumah Sakit Umum Pertamedika Ummi Rosnati Tahun 2025

Abstract

Typhoid fever is an acute infection caused by Salmonella typhi bacteria that generally attacks children through contaminated food and drinks. The duration of fever in patients generally ranges from 7–14 days. In addition to clinical symptoms, accurate diagnosis requires laboratory examinations such as the number of leukocytes. In children, generally the number of normal leukocyte values is between 4,500-13,500 cells/mm³. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the number of leukocytes and the duration of fever in cases of childhood typhoid fever at Pertamedika Ummi Rosnati Hospital in 2025. This type of study is quantitative descriptive with a cross-sectional design.  The sampling technique in this study is total sampling. The sample in this study was 114 inpatients with a diagnosis of childhood typhoid fever. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate data. The results of the study showed that the incidence rate of typhoid fever in children at Pertamedika Ummi Rosnati Hospital in 2025 was 3%. The results of the univariate analysis showed that the most inpatient patients with the diagnosis of childhood typhoid fever were women, namely 57% with an age of > 5 years, which was 84%. The duration of fever had the most acute fever (< 7 days), which was 67% with the number of normal leukocytes (4500 cells/μL - 13500 cells/μL) which was 46%. The results of bivariate analysis using the chi-square statistical test obtained p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between the number of leukocytes and the duration of fever in patients with childhood typhoid fever.
