Hygiene and sanitation in the workplace, particularly in canteen areas, are important for controlling biological hazards and protecting workers’ health. The presence of flies in the canteen area is an environmental condition that requires attention. This study aimed to describe digestive disorder complaints among workers and identify bacteria in flies found in the mining canteen of PT X, Southeast Minahasa. This descriptive observational study involved 40 respondents from a population of 220 workers selected using purposive sampling. Digestive disorder complaints were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using univariate analysis. One housefly (Musca domestica) sample was examined through bacterial culture, isolation, PCR, and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. A total of 36 respondents (90.0%) experienced mild complaints, 2 respondents (5.0%) reported no complaints, and 2 respondents (5.0%) experienced moderate complaints. No severe complaints were found. The most frequently reported complaints were diarrhea (50.0%), excessive flatulence (47.5%), changes in bowel habits (45.0%), and abdominal bloating (42.5%). Laboratory examination identified Providencia vermicola in one housefly sample based on 16S rRNA gene analysis. Most respondents experienced mild digestive disorder complaints, and Providencia vermicola was identified in one housefly sample. The bacterial finding cannot be used to establish the cause of digestive disorder complaints among workers. The findings may provide preliminary information for managing biological hazards through hygiene, sanitation, and vector control in the canteen environment.Downloads
